1. What is this change?
Starting September 1, 2025, Flexport will begin implementing mandatory Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all Seller Portal users. All users will be required to enable MFA by October 15, 2025.
2. Why are we making this change?
Account security is one of our highest priorities. MFA provides an added layer of protection, ensuring your account can only be accessed with both your password and a unique code sent to your phone. Along with MFA, we are introducing advanced threat detection and protection to prevent unauthorized access.
3. How do I enable MFA?
- Log in to the Seller Portal.
- Go to Account Settings > Account Information.
- Click on Enable multi-factor authentication
- Add or update your phone number (required for SMS verification).
- Follow the prompts to confirm your phone number and enable MFA.
- Once MFA is enabled, you will receive a text code during each login for verification.
4. Threat Protection Enablement
Flexport is also enhancing account protection with automated threat detection. This system monitors login activity and identifies suspicious behaviours. If suspicious activity is identified—for example, attempts to access your account from:
- Multiple devices at the same time, or
- Unusual or unexpected locations,
your account may be temporarily blocked from accessing the Seller Portal to ensure security. If this happens, our support team will guide you through the steps to regain access.
5. FAQs
Q: What if I don’t enable MFA?
A: Starting September 15, 2025, you will no longer be able to access the Seller Portal without MFA.
Q: Can I change my phone number in the future?
A: Yes. You can update your phone number at any time from Settings > Account Information.
Q: Are there other methods (e.g., authenticator app) to enable MFA?
A: At launch, MFA will only be supported via SMS text codes. We are exploring support for additional methods (like authenticator apps) in the future.
Q: Can I use the same login for multiple users?
A: No. For security reasons, each user must have their own individual login and MFA setup. Sharing one login across multiple users increases security risks and may result in account blocks. Every Seller Portal user will need their own distinct account moving forward.
Q: I don’t want to provide my phone number. What options do I have?
A: MFA requires a valid phone number to receive SMS codes. At this time, providing a phone number is mandatory for activating and using MFA. There are no current exceptions or bypass rules for this requirement.
Q: Are there any exceptions to mandatory MFA?
A: No. MFA will be required for all Seller Portal users without exception in order to maintain a consistent and secure experience across the platform.
Q: Do I need to enable MFA if I log in with Facebook, Google, or Shopify?
A: No. If you use a federated login option (like Facebook, Google, Shopify, or Flexport Single Sign-On) from the Seller Portal login page, you do not need to set up MFA separately.
